Amish farm stands & shops along Old Philadelphia Pike
This is the part of Lancaster County people come specifically to see. You've got working Amish farms all around you, buggies going by at all hours, and Old Philadelphia Pike lined with family restaurants, farm stands, little museums, and shops. Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant is just down the road. It's an easy area to explore — relaxed, friendly, and nowhere near as crowded as some of the bigger tourist strips.
Car is the most practical way to get around; the area is low‑density and spread out. Roadside parking is available at most tourist sites and inns. Watch for horse‑drawn buggies and slower traffic on PA‑340 (Old Philadelphia Pike). Red Rose Transit Authority provides county bus routes serving portions of PA‑340 and Lancaster; service is limited compared with urban transit and may require transfers in Lancaster. The nearest full‑service Amtrak station is Lancaster (downtown) with taxi/rideshare or local bus connections. Lancaster Airport (LNS) and several small general‑aviation fields are nearby for private or regional flights.
